The 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird is a better and more high-performance version of the Road Runner. Although short lived, it offered an amazing vehicle when it comes to speed and performance. Moreover, it arrived with an iconic look and horn. Plymouth built only 135 units of the Hemi Superbird, which makes it a rare muscle car from its generation.

The rare muscle car served as a follow up to the stock car racing design for the 1970 season to the Dodge Charger Daytona of 1969. Hence, it came with many engineering changes and modifications (both minor and major). Therefore, this allowed the muscle car to be part of the Daytona’s season in competition on the track.
The Hemi Superbird main competitor is the Ford Torino Talladega. The Ford muscle car is actually a response to the Mopar aero car. Therefore, speculations about the creation of the Superbird surface. The alleged main reason was to get Richard Petty back to Plymouth.
Both the Hemi Superbird and the Mopar aero car have aerodynamic nosecones that stick out of their bodies. Moreover, both have a high-mounted rear wings. For the Plymouth muscle car, they added a horn which mimicked the Road Runner cartoon character.
The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL-1 is a rare muscle car that offers good looks and amazing performance. Chevy built only 69 examples of this car so finding one today is virtually impossible. However, you can get a copy of the original since there are people who build imitations of the original.
Under the hood, the Camaro ZL-1 carried a COPO 9560 ZL1 engine option. Since it has a powerful engine, the car has become iconic even on track. Moreover, the ZL1 had its origins in the fire-breathing L88 427 CI big block racing engine. To complement its power, Chevy made extensive use of aluminum in the block, heads, intake and ancillary pieces, employing steel only for the forged crank, connecting rods, pushrods and camshaft. This resulted to the most exotic American production engine ever built to that time.
Due to its look, power, and rarity, the Camaro ZL-1 became a celebrated muscle car in the motoring world. You can still get one of these as of today but due to limited number, you might have to spend a fortune to drive home one.

The 1967 Ford Fairlane 500 R-Code is special and rare muscle car from the American auto maker. In 1966, Ford implemented many changes on the Hairline, giving it a more full-sized appearance. In addition to this, in the middle of 1966, they released a special version of the Fairlane. This is the Fairlane 500 R-Code with only 57 units coming out of production.
The two-door hardtop arrived with 427 CID V8s rated at 425 bhp (317 kW) and equipped with Ford’s “Top-Loader” four-speed manual transmission. Ford built it to qualify the engine/transmission combination for NHRAand IHRA Super Stock racing. Moreover, they used white and had fiberglass hoods with a forward-facing hood scoop which ended at the edge of the hood.
They also introduced minor trim changes, giving the car a minor facelift. Ford also put a number of federal government-mandated safety features. These included a new energy-absorbing steering column with a large padded steering wheel hub, soft interior trim, four-way hazard flashers, a dual-chamber braking system, and shoulder belt anchors.



The 1964 Dodge Ramcharger Superstock 426 is a rare muscle also famous as the hottest performing power plant to come off a production line at that time. Apparently, this muscle car was the next step up from the 413 V8 of 1962. Dodge built only 50 examples of this muscle car with a whopping 426 Hemi under the hood. However, its quest for brute horsepower brought more changes than just a displacement boost. These included large-port cylinder heads, a forged-steel crankshaft, double shot-peened connecting rods with high-strength bolts, and forged-aluminum high-compression pistons.



The 1965 Plymouth Belvedere I is part of the Belvedere series available in three model variants and a number of body styles. This rare muscle car is popular as an economy-value muscle car and an intermediate offering since the Fury became full size. Plymouth released only 63 units of this muscle car with unknown division for manual and automatic transmissions. Each Belvedere featured standard options such as electric windshield wipers, Chrysler Corporation Alternator, automatic convertible top, self-adjusting brakes, heater and defroster, and 12-volt battery.



The 1969 AMC AMX SS is a rare muscle car with only 52 units out of production. This limited edition car came out to maximize quarter-mile performance. AMC put a 390 engine with twin Holley carburetors and 12.3:1 compression-ratio cylinder heads. Moreover, they placed  aftermarket Doug’s headers and exhaust system. Furthermore, the tires were drag slicks. American Motors rated the car at 340 hp (250 kW. Its best recorded quarter-mile was 10.73 seconds at 128 mph (206 km/h)



The 1967 Plymouth R023 GTX is an option for the Belvedere lineup. This rare muscle car has all the performance options pre-installed and packaged in a stylish vehicle design. Plymouth only released 55 units of this car, carrying a 440 cubic-inch eight-cylinder engine. This engine is also famous as the Super Commando 440. Aside from speed, this car also boasted excellent handling, thanks to its improved leaf springs, modified shocks, ball joins, and torsion bars.



The 1970-71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible marked the time when the auto maker removed all resemblance of the Valiant on the Barracuda. This rare muscle car is the ultimate muscle car of its time, combining the awesome power of Chrysler’s dual-quad 426 Hemi V-8 with classic pony car styling. During this time, Plymouth also removed the stigma of an economy car on its lineup of muscle cars. However, they made it limited since they only released 21 units of this muscle car.


The 1970 Dodge Super Bee has similarity to the Dodge Coronet two-door coupe. They based the design of the Super Bee from the Coronet. However, they released it as Dodge’s low-priced powerful muscle car and a rebadged version of the Plymouth Road Runner. Its name “Super Bee” came from having a “B” Body designation pertinent to Chrysler’s mid-sized cars, including the Road Runner and Charger. A rare muscle car, Dodge released only 32 units of the Super Bee where 21 are manual transmission and 11 are automatic.



The 1966 Plymouth Satellite is the top trim for the Belvedere line. Until 1967, it remained the top of the line model. After that, it became the mid-price model with the GTX taking its place as the top model. They built it on the Chrysler B-platform. The 1966 model year was part of the first year of the Satellite. For the 1966 model year, Plymouth released only 27 units. Hence, it is a rare muscle car and premium one at that.



The 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is part of the second generation of this muscle car. They replaced the “Coke bottle styling” with a more “swoopy” body style. Still, they retained a few traditional elements. The new design initially came with a large C-pillar, until 1975 when the made rear window larger. A rare muscle car, Pontiac delivered only 88 units of this car. It was available both in coupe and convertible body styles.



The 1974 Plymouth GTX 440 is a rare muscle car with only 79 units available during its release. Plymouth introduced it to replace the Belvedered GTX and dubbed it as the “gentleman’s muscle car”. This rare muscle car offers a blend of style and performance fit for a gentleman. It came standard with Plymouth’s 440 cu in (7.2 L) V8 called the “Super Commando 440”. They rated the engine at rated at 375 hp (280 kW), which is a powerful one back then.



The 1971 Dodge Charger R/T 426 Hemi is the only time the Hemi engine became available on the generation Charger. An introductory year, the Charger arrived with a new body design, offering a more aggressive stance. A rare muscle car, only 63 examples of the Charger R/T 426 Hemi came out of production. They included options such as a “ramcharger” hood scoop controlled on a lever from the dashboard, a rear spoiler, and optional hidden headlights.



The 1966 Oldsmobile 442 W30 is the auto maker’s answer to the Pontiac 389 Tri Power GTO. It first arrived in a sporty restyling of the Cutlass-based 442. Then, they increased in the 400 CI Rocket engine’s baseline power to 350 HP then to 360 HP. They built only 54 units with this package, which incorporated twin inlet scoops in the front bumper that channeled fresh air through flexible hoses to a special air cleaner atop the Tri Power carburetion system.



The 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 is a cool car and a rare muscle car too. Chevy produced only 20 units of the Corvette L88 so finding one today is virtually impossible. Still, many collectors want to have this muscle car in their garage. Due to rarity, it is an extremely expensive muscle car to buy. Although it is not as powerful as a Ferrari, it is a beautiful machinery that makes head turns when driven on the road.



The 1966 Dodge Coronet Deluxe is part of the fifth generation of this muscle car. Dodge produced only 49 units of this variant where 31 units have manual transmission while 18 units have automatic. This rare muscle car comes with the base option offering a 225 cid 6-cylinder engine. It comes with options such as electric windshield wipers, chrome windshield and rear window moldings, heater and defroster. Moreover, it has a Dodge insignia across the center of the hood and the vertical section on the trunk lid.



The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6 arrived with a more squared up stance for this car model. They followed the coke bottle styling, which made the car look good from the outside. Inside, Chevy also implemented some redesigns on the car. They ensured to make it more comfortable to drive and ride. A rare muscle car, Chevy produced only 20 examples of this Chevelle variant. Hence, getting your hands on one is virtually impossible and really, really expensive.



The 1971 Pontiac GTO Judge Convertible is a handsome and rare muscle car. Out of the 357 units of GTO Judge produced, only 17 arrived in convertible form. Hence, it is a very desirable car before and even today. It is very difficult to get one today however there are many clones that some settle just to have a copy of this car in their garage. A powerful vehicle, it has a YE block 455-cu.in. V-8 engine, with an output rated at 335 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque




The 1969 Chevrolet Corvette ZL-1 is an ultra rare muscle car with only 3 units ever coming out of production. This good-looking muscle car has a 427 cubic inch engine made from aluminum and a L88 Special Turbo Jet that can produce 500 horsepower. Because it is a rare muscle car, it will cost a fortune to get any one of the units that still exist today.



The 1967/1970 Dodge Coronet R/T 426 Hemi Convertible is the rarest among muscle cars with only 2 units ever coming out in the market. One came out in 1967 and the other one in 1970. Under the hood, the original variant came with a 487 Coronet R/T (Road and Track) engine. Then, in 1970, it received a complete makeover, able to produce up to 425 horsepower. Whoever still owns any of these two units is a lucky car owner.
