We dropped a brand-new Samsung Galaxy S9 onto the sidewalk to see how much it can handle.

If there's one thing our drop tests have taught us it's that phones with glass backs do not hold up well when dropped on concrete sidewalks. We didn't expect that to change with Samsung's new Galaxy S9. It uses the same Gorilla Glass 5 material as the previous Galaxy S8, and the Galaxy Note 8 both on the front and back of the phone, and it has the same curved edges on either side.

The back of the Galaxy S8 broke on the first fall from hip height in our previous drop test, but the screen remained intact despite dropping it from 5 feet onto a gravel road. Going into our test, I didn't expect the Samsung Galaxy S9 to have the same good fortune as its predecessor considering it's about 8 grams heavier and 0.5 mm thicker. Plus there's no way that curved screen could come out unscathed from another round of drops. Right?!

Whether you're a newcomer to Android or just upgrading to a newer model, consider tweaking these settings to improve performance and battery life.
New Android phone? Take a peek at its settings. So many categories, so many options within those categories. It's enough to make your head swim.
And you might find yourself wondering, are the factory settings ideal? Right out of the box, is your new phone really configured for optimal performance, productivity and battery life?
Maybe yes, maybe no. Here are the Android settings you should consider changing right away. (Quick note: with so many different versions of Android out there, the steps outlined here might be slightly different on your phone. For the record, I used a Sasung Galaxy S6 running Android 5.1.1.)

1. Crank down the brightness

Simple math: The brighter your screen, the faster it will consume your battery. That's why you should lower the brightness setting, and not by a little. Consider dropping it to 50 percent or even less.

Turn the brightness down, and watch your battery life go up.

Nokia CEO ended his speech saying this “we didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost”.

Nokia CEO ended his speech saying this “we didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost”.
During the press conference to announce NOKIA being acquired by Microsoft, Nokia CEO ended his speech saying this “we didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost”. Upon saying that, all his management team, himself included, teared sadly.
Nokia has been a respectable company. They didn’t do anything wrong in their business, however, the world changed too fast. Their opponents were too powerful.
They missed out on learning, they missed out on changing, and thus they lost the opportunity at hand to make it big. Not only did they miss the opportunity to earn big money, they lost their chance of survival.
The message of this story is, if you don’t change, you shall be removed from the competition.
It’s not wrong if you don’t want to learn new things. However, if your thoughts and mindset cannot catch up with time, you will be eliminated.
Conclusion:
1. The advantage you have yesterday, will be replaced by the trends of tomorrow. You don’t have to do anything wrong, as long as your competitors catch the wave and do it RIGHT, you can lose out and fail.
  1. To change and improve yourself is giving yourself a second chance. To be forced by others to change, is like being discarded.
Those who refuse to learn & improve, will definitely one day become redundant & not relevant to the industry. They will learn the lesson in a hard & expensive way.

If you're anything like me, when you want to download something big onto your iPhone you have to pit your apps up against each other to decide who stays and who gets the chop.
Sometimes I'm shocked by the weird, unused apps that have somehow wrangled their way onto my phone and I'll happily delete them.
However, Redditor eavesdroppingyou has revealed a trick which frees up loads of space WITHOUT DELETING ANYTHING.
It's so simple, it's kind of infuriating.
When you go to download something and it pops up with the following message...
ss
You probably say something along the lines of: "Oh, bollocks". But don't "Oh, bollocks" it just yet.
When you click 'settings', your iPhone will automatically begin 'cleaning' apps. Basically, removing cookies, cache etc to free up some space. If you press your home button, you'll see apps that are going through this process.
Anyway, you can repeat this process over and over. One guy apparently went from 800 MB free space to 4.9 GB just by repeating this process.

We’ve seen the BlackBerry Priv screenshots, UK preorder page, and BlackBerry CEO John Chen awkwardly fumbling with it onstage whiletouting that it “runs Google.” Now, we’ve got an official BlackBerry videoshowing off the Android-powered Priv’s marquee feature — the return of the sliding QWERTY keyboard.
The video begins by convincing you that what you’re seeing is an up-to-date Android smartphone with a 5.4-inch screen, only to hit us sideways with the surprise reveal that you can type like it’s 2006. For those who can’t let go of the physical keyboard, the Priv appears to offer the best of both worlds. Though the phone has a throwback design, its specs are up to date. The Priv comes with 3GB of memory, 32GB of storage (expandable to 2TB), a 1.8GHz processor, and a 18MP rear camera. No information is available at the moment on pricing or availability beyond the UK contract-only preorder page, but the company says it will be available by year’s end.
For BlackBerry, the Priv is a bold bet. The company says it hopes to sell 5 million phones a year or it may exit the phone business altogether. To do that, the company is banking on the more mainstream Android OS and nostalgia for pre-touchscreen keyboards. BlackBerry isn’t giving up on its own BB10 software — it plans to release an update in March — but it is baking some of BB10’s security features into the Priv.
Find out which Moto phones will get Android 6.0 software updates and which will be left out in the cold. Also, get educated about Motorola's changes to its custom software

The Moto X Pure Edition should soon receive an Android 6.0 update.

Motorola confirmed its intention on Friday to issue Android 6.0 software updates for a number of its smartphones. Additionally, the handset maker says it's making some changes to the apps that come pre-loaded with the Marshmallow update.
Just when you thought the name “BlackBerry” had faded into obscurity, the company that used to rule the smartphone world looks to be back with a new handset. And this time, it’s running Google’s Android.
Yes, according to an image posted to Twitter by famed tech leaker Evan Blass (better known by his handle @evleaks), BlackBerry is really hoping you miss tapping away on a smartphone with its own physical keyboard.

Samsung supersizes its sexiest phones screen

CNET EDITORS' RATING

THE GOOD Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge+ has a compelling design, top-tier specs and excellent battery life. Its second menu for the curved display adds some useful shortcuts.
THE BAD One of the most expensive handsets on the market, the Edge+'s usefulness doesn't live up to its sky-high price. Fans of removable batteries and microSD card slots will be disappointed that this has neither.
THE BOTTOM LINE Buy the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ if you love the idea of a wraparound screen; otherwise, you'll be able to find less expensive phones that do nearly as much.
Its flagship phone, the One M9, has not caught on, and HTC says it will continue to invest in other areas, including virtual reality, as it looks to turn itself around.HTC's latest flagship handset, the One M9, isn't helping the company succeed.
The second quarter of 2015 was not kind to HTC as revenue for the Taiwanese phone maker slid significantly and its profits from last year turned to losses this time around.
The company's revenue reached NT$33 billion ($1.04 billion) worldwide (PDF) during the second quarter, or just half of its NT$65.1 billion revenue during the same period last year. Meanwhile, its operating profit -- a measure of the difference between revenue and expenses before taxes, interest, and other items are factored in -- fell from a gain of NT$2.4 billion a year ago to a loss of NT$5.1 billion.
The company says it will create a "brand-licensing model" that could see Nokia devices again hit store shelves -- if it can find the right partner.
Nokia may eventually get back into the smartphone business.
A Nokia Technologies spokesman has answered a question that has been asked ever since the company sold its Devices business to Microsoft: Will Nokia ever get back into the mobile devices business?

The answer..."It's complicated."
The new Note 5 smartphone from Samsung could be announced in August instead of September in an attempt to outshine Apple's next iPhone, says the Wall Street Journal.

Samsung may unveil the successor to the Galaxy Note 4 a bit early this year.

Watch out Apple. Samsung may bump up the due date for its Galaxy Note 5 supersized smartphone.
The Korean company will move up the traditional September unveiling of its next Galaxy Note to mid-August, the Wall Street Journal said on Friday, citing "a person familiar with the matter." TheGalaxy Note 4 and Note 3 both were announced in September, so this would mark a seemingly minor but significant change in Samsung's launch strategy.
Who Makes the Best Smartphone Cam? Not Apple
Like most people, I replaced my digital point-and-shoot camera with a smartphone camera a long time ago. So now that the two-year contract on my worn-out Samsung Galaxy S4 is up, I want to make sure that my next phone has the best camera available.
But with every smartphone maker claiming to have the newest, flashiest camera, how can you tell which is actually the best?
To find out, I took to the streets of Manhattan with some of today’s hottest smartphones and shot pictures of everything from statues to flowers to people. Then I compared how each phone’s camera performed.
Four co-workers and I ranked each photo on a scale from 1 to 6, awarding 1 point to the worst photo in each category and 6 to the best. Scores are based on how clearly detailed the images were and how closely the colors matched those in real life.
Here is a list of best phones in the world right now.

10. Nexus 6

Google’s best ever phone is also its biggest ever
OS: Android 5 | Screen size: 5.96-inch | Resolution: 2560 x 1440 | Memory: 3GB | Storage: 32GB/64GB | Battery: 3,220mAh | Rear camera: 13MP | Front camera: 2MP
Google’s latest Nexus is a phone that moves away from the usual ‘super cheap superphone’ and into phablet territory with its latest offering. The good news is the screen is also supercharged: massive at 6 inches, it’s also got a stunning QHD resolution.
You’ll always be getting the latest updates to Google’s Android OS with this one, and while it’s certainly something you’d have to use two handed (make sure you’re fine with that before buying, as it’s put a lot of people off that we’ve shown it to) it’s tremendous display, premium specs and great use of Android 5.0 Lollipop make one of the best phablets to date.
We’re coming up on a holiday weekend, and while the fireworks won’t start until Friday night, the celebration has already begun here at BGR. We’re getting the party started with a great list of eight paid iPhone and iPad apps on sale for free for a limited time, but hurry and grab them to ensure that you don’t miss anything.
There are also still a few paid iOS apps on sale for free in yesterday’s post, so be sure to check those out as well.
These are paid iPhone and iPad apps that have been made available for free for a limited time by their developers. There is no way to tell how long they will be free. These sales could end an hour from now or a week from now—obviously, the only thing we can guarantee is that they were free at the time this post was written. If you click on a link and see a price listed next to an app instead of the word “get,” it is no longer free. The sale has ended. If you download the app, you will be charged.

With just a few taps, you can gain access to your Apple Music playlists from anywhere within the Music app.
Apple Music's new Connect feature allows you to follow your favorite artists and groups, similar to Facebook or Twitter. Only, so far Connect hasn't proven to be all that useful.
What is useful, however, is the new playlist feature in Apple Music. You can add playlists created by others to your Apple Music account, or create your own from and share them with your friends.
The search giant is under fire after its Photo app offensively mislabeled user's photos. It points to another challenge Silicon Valley companies have to face when developing next-gen tech: sensitivity.
Google's is under fire after its algorithm mistakenly labeled a picture of black people as "gorillas."
Google became one of the most powerful companies on Earth because it has developed some of the best algorithms in the world for organizing information. But a gaffe this week shows the shortcomings of technology, particularly when it doesn't work just quite right.
Technically Incorrect: It seemed as if Samsung wasn't going to knock Apple anymore. Then came the NBA Finals and new ads for the Galaxy S6 Edge. And boy is that iPhone 6 a bad phone.
edge56.jpgLook. It's obvious which phone has the edge.
It seems so long since Samsung cocked a snook and thumbed its nose in the direction of Cupertino.
I feared this was the end.
