BUGATTI CHIRON: THE ENGINE AT ITS HEART

The Bugatti Chiron is the first production car to bring 1,500PS of power onto the road and brings 1,600Nm of torque with it between 2,000 and 6,000rpm. This, from the hugely uprated W16, eight-litre engine used in the Chiron's predecessor, the Veyron.
In order to obtain what is a 25% power increase, the powertrain engineers at Bugatti almost completely redesigned the power plant. It has four larger turbochargers which are controlled by a two-stage system – a technology which Bugatti is using for the first time – the exhaust system with reduced back pressure, optimised intercooling and duplex fuel injection with 32 injectors.
That helps the Chiron hit over 260mph, and in the future who knows, maybe a lot closer to that 300mph mark.
