Jennifer Lawrence Unleashes Her Mutant Fury in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'

Who needs a bow and arrow when you can just use your feet?

Jennifer Lawrence may have stood on the sidelines for most of 2011's "X-Men: First Class," but she's in full-on Mystique mode in the sequel, "X-Men: Days of Future Past." And fans of the shapeshifting blue beauty know what that means: laying the smack down on a roomful of dudes.
J.Law is of course no stranger to on-screen fighting and physical acts of derring-do, having done plenty of running, leaping, and arrow-shooting as Katniss Everdeen in the first two "Hunger Games" movies. But Mystique is a completely different kind of creature (a "mutant of a different color," if you will): she knows kung fu.
And she knows it well. The scene in our exclusive clip begins with Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) entering a room of military-types to present his Sentinel program, the legion of mechanized warriors designed to stomp out the "mutant threat." Trask assures the group that the technology is harmless against humans, though his handheld gizmo soon reveals there's a mutant among them right then and there.
"What are you?" asks Trask before the alarmed meeting attendee reveals he's not going to be so easily intimidated by these bullying "normals." Mystique quickly reveals her true form, who proceeds to kick a bunch of these jerks in the face, slide across the floor, and flip over the conference room table before closing her rousing one-woman show with grabbing another guy's gun.

Along with her stunt and CG double, Lawrence proves she's more than a worthy successor to Rebecca Romijn, who starred as Mystique in the original "X-Men" trilogy. But while Romijn certainly had the physicality to believably fight someone twice her size, Lawrence also has the Oscar-winning dramatic chops to make Mystique a compelling and sympathetic character. Is it any wonder the studio is looking to spin her off for a solo movie? Just think about how much face-kicking Lawrence would get to do in that?
