Biographical film following the rise of hip-hop group N.W.A, ‘Straight Outta Compton’ was a smash summer hit, grossing a cool $160 million at the box office. The film was a hit with audiences and critics alike and was praised for the stellar performances.
Rapper, Ice Cube, took on the role of producer of the film and with the story revolving around the hip-hop group he was a part of, casting actors to play people he knew was probably not too easy. Here’s how the actors of ‘Straight Outta Compton’ compare to their real-life counterparts.
Casting doesn’t get any more perfect than Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., playing him in the film. The resemblance is absolutely uncanny and O’Shea Jackson Jr. looks exactly like a young Ice Cube.
Actor, Corey Hawkins, was an spot on choice to portray rapper, record producer, and entrepreneur, Dr. Dre. Comparing a picture of Hawkins to a young Dr. Dre, it’s clear to see why he was cast.
Jason Mitchell’s portrayal of rapper Eazy-E proved to be a breakout role for the acting newcomer.
Mitchell bears quite a striking resemblance to Eazy-E and his performance was met with significant praise from critics.
Actor Neil Brown Jr. looks just like founding member of the pioneering gangsta rap group N.W.A, DJ Yella.
Aldis Hodge got his start by making his debut in the third ‘Die Hard’ film and has been acting ever since.
Hodge played the N.W.A member MC Ren who found himself part of the group after writing more than half of the songs for Eazy-E’s debut album.
Actor Paul Giamatti played Jerry Heller, who managed the influential hip-hop group.
