Westworld beats Game of Thrones with record-breaking viewing figures for a HBO premiere
Game of Thrones season 6 finished off with an epic finale, and the season 7 is apparently going to be even more sensational as we near its later than usual airing time. However, until we return to our favourite fantasy show next year, most of us like to occupy our mundane lives by watching other phenomenal shows. One such new HBO show, Westworld, recently had its debut, and as it turns out, HBO has just introduced us to a whole new addictive world.
Post it’s trailer release, Westworld gathered a lot of attention, and now that it has finally debuted, it grabbed a whopping 3.3 million total viewers across all platforms, according to Variety. That, right there, is the best series premiere for HBO after other popular shows, including the most splendid one of all, that is Game of Thrones, which had received 2.2 Million viewers on its series premiere. Although Game of Thrones has since gotten a lot more viewers until season 6 and counting, Westworld must be applauded given the fact that it had to face a lot of competition. Many new shows have recently surfaced, including returning ones, and to have gathered this impressive amount of viewers despite the competition is quite commendable.
Regardless of the fact that it beat Game of Thrones, Westworld has done a lot for HBO, since Game of Thrones is due to end soon, and based on Westworld’s popularity already, it must prove quite helpful to the channel. The hype that Westworld created post it’s trailer release, the debut has lived up to it as it appears, and HBO, it seems, has found the heir of Game of Thrones. So we might finally have another fantasy, sci-fi show to obsess over after Game of Thrones ends!
If you haven’t yet watched the trailer of Westworld, we recommend that you watch it right now!
