Céline Dion is quite the powerhouse in the music industry.
Between performing the absolutely legendary "My Heart Will Go On" for Titanic to
having the best selling French language album of all time, and also the
best-selling Canadian artist of all time, she has made quite the name
for herself. There are some other interesting facts about the superstar
though, like her relationship with her husband and manager, René Angélil. For all those times he stood by her.
Céline Dion can truly boast about a long-lasting career.
She began as a teen popstar and has been wowing the world
ever since. Talk about job security. She has definitely not been a
passing trend.
I mean, that best selling French-language album we mentioned, D'eux, is over 20 years old.
That's right, she released it in 1995 – and it still holds that record today. I mean, that's some serious bragging rights.
And there has been one constant throughout this dynamite career of hers: her adoring husband and manager René Angélil.
But there is something about the loving couple of 21 years that may shock you.
The Dion-Angélil household has some surprises for us yet.
Dion first met Angélil back in 1980, when she was just 12 years old.
Angélil, by comparison, was 38 years old at the time.
The fateful pair met when Angélil met with the family after
hearing a demo tape of a song Dion wrote and sang with her mother and
one of her brothers.
He subsequently mortgaged his own home to pay for Dion's
first album – that's how impressed he was and how much he believed in
her. Well he couldn't have been more right on that one.
The two began their relationship in 1987, and were engaged in 1991.
The couple was then wed in 1994 in a gorgeous ceremony in Montreal, René's hometown.
The couple even renewed their vows in 2000 with an Orthodox ceremony in Las Vegas.
The ceremony was performed in Caesar's Palace, which would
later become important to the pair as the home of her Residency Show in
Las Vegas.
Many may have been initially shocked by the 26-year age difference between the couple, but they proved their love was true.
Her musical inspiration had to come from somewhere right? Their love was something beautiful.
Tragically, however, their love story was cut short after 21
years given Angélil's death earlier this year after a courageous battle
with throat cancer.
Thankfully, Dion is a strong person, and so like her famous song, her heart will go on.
After a hiatus from her residency show, she has once again
returned to the stage to do what she does best, that her husband knew
she could do since the moment they met.
And I think we can all agree that her husband's love is still a constant in her life, and always will be.
