Most people have hundreds of Facebook friends and, statistically speaking, not all of these friends will share your own beliefs and political views. And thanks to our newsfeeds, we usually get front row seats to anyone that wants to use Facebook to express their point of view.
There is no doubt that that the 2016 American election got ugly on both sides, and people got very impassioned in their views about both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Facebook became a battleground for people that wanted to yell about the election and their candidate of choice.
If you were a Hillary Clinton supporter, you probably had it with everything that Trump supporters were saying about her and seeing it on your newsfeed. Trump ran his campaign on divisive and hateful rhetoric, and his supporters tended to follow his lead when it came to expressing their own views.
This is not to say that Hillary Clinton supporters didn't get ugly either, because they did. And regardless of which side you support, it can be annoying to see all of this constantly on your newsfeed. At least when people were vocal about it on Facebook, you could just delete them because they made themselves known to you.
However, there are those that do have strong views on the election but are not as vocal about it. Now that Donald Trump has been announced as the next POTUS, a lot of people have been left scratching their heads as to how it happened. A lot of people feel Trump was a candidate that ran his campaign on fear and outright ostracized certain communities. For this reason, they feel that they cannot associate with his supporters.
When you are logged on, go up to the search bar and type in ‘my friends who like Donald J. Trump’ and you will get a neat list of everyone who has liked him on Facebook and, by extension, supports him. Of course if you're a Trump supporter and want to get rid of the Hillary supporters, just type in the same thing and change out Trump for Hillary. But honestly, can’t we all just get along? Is it necessary to delete people with opposing views from your Facebook? Maybe.
