Game of Thrones hit a new series high ratings record with its Season 5 finale. Even going up again the NBA Finals, “Mother’s Mercy” still averaged 8.11 million viewer. That’s a significant growth from the previous week’s episode (7.14 million) and the previous season’s finale (7.09).

“Mother’s Mercy” breaks the previous series record held by the Season 5 premiere episode, “The Wars to Come” (8 million).
Game of Thrones has now grown from a genre show mostly viewed as targeting a very narrow audience to the second most watched show on cable, behind The Walking Dead.
Game of Thrones will return for Season 6 on HBO next spring.
