Well, a new trailer from the next adaptation from novelist Gillian Flynn is definitely giving Rosamund Pike a run for her money as Flynn’s most tortured blonde murder mystery star.
“Dark Places” tells the story of Libby Day (Charlize Theron), a grown-up survivor of a brutal family massacre that happened when she was a child. Her “freak” brother was imprisoned for the crime, but a secret society obsessed with solving crimes — led by Theron’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” costarNicholas Hoult — wants to look into the case and find out what REALLY went down.
This time, Flynn didn’t adapt the novel herself — that task went to Gilles Paquet-Brenner, who also directs. But the chilling tone of the trailer definitely seems to keep Flynn’s penchant for thrilling deep-darkness in tact.
Chloë Grace Moretz, Christina Hendricks, Corey Stoll, and Tye Sheridan round out the cast of the thriller, which opens in theaters August 7.
