Well, this is something else! After all the hype started when Volkswagen officials stated they’ll reveal a series production Golf R420 (with 420 HP engine), the whole motoring world, including the best Europeans tuners, started thinking only about one thing – to deliver something even better. Luckily, the Worthersee GTI Treiffen was due to start shortly and one tuner succeeded to create such a monstrously styled and powered Golf that it dwarfed even the best coming from Volkswagen. Please, enjoy the greatness of the Oettinger Volkswagen Golf R500. This is, by far, the most extreme expression of the European popular hot hatch ever since Ford revealed the new Focus RS and Honda revealed the new Civic Type R.
You are right, that badass Peugeot 308 R HYbrid is equally mad and the old Volkswagen Golf W12 GTI is something from another world, but this one can actually be on the road. This one can be bought, licenced and driven on every road in the world.
than 500 HP thus giving the popular hatchback power to be reckoned with.
In order to create such an astonishingly powerful engine, the Oettinger did the only logical thing it could – it sourced the engine from the Audi RS3. That is right, the 2,5 liter TFSI which is already tuned to develop more than 500 HP in some of Audi Concept cars had been thoroughly modified and improved. New forged pistons are installed, ECU had been heavily reprogrammed, while the cooling, air induction and the whole exhaust system had been overhauled. Furthermore, the turbocharger had been replaced by a new, bigger unit and the improvements meant that the full power surged to a rather impressive 518 HP and 500 lb ft of torque.
With Haldex made all-wheel drive and reinforced transmission (DSG of course), the Oettinger tuned Golf R500 can achieve some serious performance. 62 mph can be cracked in 3,4 seconds and the car can reach the speeds of more than 186 mph. Considering that this is just a hatchback, these results, which dwarf the performance of some of the best sports cars in the world, are astonishing to say the least. Complementing the tuning, Oettinger developed a full on body kit and wonderful interior decorations making the car much more exclusive and almost luxurious.
Of course, the price will be in accordance with the sheer sick character of the car. More than $170.000 is the price of the Golf R500! We said it! You can buy three Corvettes for the money, but none of them will be sick and mental as this monstrous Golf.
Interestingly, Oettinger is looking to create even more powerful versions – with 600 HP, 650 HP and 750 HP, but we will have to wait a bit more for them.
